USA LAWMAKERS APPROVE MORE DEFENSE AID FOR ISRAEL:
The House Appropriations Committee and the House and Senate Armed Services Committees on Thurs. 29 June 2017, advanced USA-Israel missile defense assistance and cooperation in the 2018 defense appropriations and authorizations bills. These committees provided a total of $705 million for research and development and procurement funding for the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 USA-Israel cooperative missile defense systems. The funding represents a $558 million increase from President Donald Trump's budget request for these programs, and $105 million over last year’s adopted funding level. “As Israel faces dramatically rising security challenges, AIPAC urges inclusion of these vital funds in the final versions of the Fiscal Year 2018 defense authorization and appropriations bills,” an AIPAC official stated. SATELLITE IMAGE SHOWS A STAR OF DAVID SHAPE TARGETED BY AN IRANIAN MISSILE TEST:
In a document shared with members of the UN Security Council, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon revealed last week a startling photo showing that Iran recently used a Star of David (a Jewish symbol), as a target for a ballistic missile test. The Star of David was used as a target for a mid-range "Qiam" ballistic missile test in Dec. 2016. Alongside the Star of David, a round crater caused by the rocket can also be seen. "This missile test not only violates Security Council resolutions but also proves beyond doubt, once again, the true intentions of Iran to target Israel," said Danon in his message to Security Council member states. The Security Council must act immediately against this demonstration of hate and Iran's provocative violations that threaten the stability of the entire region," added Danon. Israel will test its Arrow 3 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) defense system in the United States next year. The news comes as concerns build over Iran's continued ballistic missile tests. The Arrow 3 system is considered one of the most technologically-advanced defense systems in the world, designed to intercept incoming missiles outside of the Earth's atmosphere. (J.Post)
NIKKI HALEY SLAMS UN SECURITY COUNCIL FOR INACTION ON IRAN:
USA Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley slammed the Security Council on 29 June 2017 for failing to take any action against Iran, which she said had "repeatedly and deliberately violated" sanctions imposed by the body. "The Security Council has failed to even take minimal steps to respond to these violations," Haley told a council briefing on Iran. We must show Iran that we will not tolerate their egregious flaunting of UN resolutions." Most UN sanctions were lifted 18 months ago under a deal Iran made with key world powers to curb its nuclear program. But Iran is still subject to an arms embargo and other restrictions, which are not technically part of the nuclear agreement. (J. Post)
UN CALLS ON SYRIAN TROOPS TO WITHDRAW FROM ISRAEL BORDER:
The UN Security Council on Thurs. 29 June 2017 strongly condemned the fighting in the buffer zone between Syria and Israel, calling on the Syrian government and rebel groups to withdraw from the area which is patrolled by UN peacekeepers. It came following several incidents last week in which the fighting in Syria's civil war spilled over into Israel. On Sunday 25 June 2017 several mortar shells exploded in an open area in the northern Golan Heights. Israel later retaliated by attacking two Syrian artillery pieces and an ammunition truck on the Syrian side of the northern Golan Heights. The following day, mortar fire from Syria struck Israel, sparking fires in the northern Golan Heights. And on Wed. 28 June, a mortar shell from Syria landed on the Golan Heights. The IDF retaliated for the incident, attacking a mortar site belonging to the Syrian regime from which the rocket was fired. PM Netanyahu later clarified that Israel “will not tolerate spillover” and would “respond to every firing”. (INN)
TRUMP ADMINISTRATION SETS NEW IMMIGRATION GUIDELINE FOR INCOMING FROM 6 MUSLIM STATES:
Following President Trump’s partial victory in the Supreme Court on his immigration regulations for citizens of six Muslim states, the administration has issued rules to set the policies in motion. Those seeking a new visa who are citizens of Yemen, Libya, Iran, Sudan Somalia and Syria who wish to enter the United States must prove a relationship with a close relative (brother, sister, son/daughter-in law, adult son/daughter, parent, spouse, child) already in the USA. Fiancées will not be able to bring their intendeds into the USA to join them. Businesses and academic institutions will need to present firm proof of compliance with the new guidelines, but consular officials will have discretion in extending waivers to individuals who can prove substantial contacts in America. “A HISTORY OF THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE” LEAVES DETAILS BLANK:
Amazon has removed from its site a book whose title purported to show Palestinian Arab history, culture, language and archaeological findings. Customers who bought the book "A History of the Palestinian People: From Ancient Times to the Modern Era" by Assaf A. Volt for $7.99 found themselves looking at 120 blank pages - a most striking way of making the writer's point that the Arab "Palestinian People" is a late twentieth century invention. According to the United with Israel website, the book was described on Amazon as “no doubt the most comprehensive and extensive review of some 3,000 years of Palestinian history, with emphasis on the Palestinian people’s unique contribution to the world and to humanity,” and was selling briskly until complaints convinced Amazon to remove it from the category Israel and Palestine History as well as Middle East History where it had been placed. A preview button on the Amazon site had revealed to potential buyers that there was no content. (Arutz-7)
THE COUNTERFEIT ARABS:
There is no such thing as a Palestinian people; no such thing as a Palestinian history; and no Palestinian language exists. There has never been any independent, sovereign Palestinian state in all of recorded history – let alone an Arab independent state of Palestine. You will search in vain for Palestinian Arab coinage or Palestinian Arab archaeological artifacts specifically related to any Palestinian Arab king or ancient leader. But what you will find are coins, pottery, ancient scrolls, all providing conclusive, empirical and millennial evidence of Jewish civilization dotting the land known correctly as Israel – not Palestine. The present-day so-called “Palestinians” are an Arab people sharing an overwhelmingly Muslim Arab culture, ethnicity and language identical to their fellow Arabs in the Middle East and North Africa, with few if any distinctions. The modern “Palestinian Arabs” are primarily the descendants of itinerant Arabs who illegally flooded British Mandatory Palestine from Arab territories as far away as Sudan, Egypt, Syria and what was Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). They were attracted during the early decades of the 20th century by new employment opportunities provided by the Jewish pioneers, whose heroic efforts were turning the desert green again and restoring centuries of neglect that the land had endured under a succession of alien occupiers. ISRAELI HI-TECH SUITCASE AIMS TO SOLVE LOST LUGGAGE PROBLEMS:
The Samsara suitcase, made of an aluminum alloy similar to materials used to make airplanes, is fireproof and comes with LED lights to see in the dark. It will notify the owner via an app if someone else opens the case, or if the luggage is moved away from the owner, within a certain preset distance. (Newsweek)
