UN REPORTS HIGHLIGHTS HAMAS ABUSES IN GAZA DURING TEN YEARS OF ABSOLUTE RULE:
A new UN report released on Tues. 11 July 2017 highlighted the negative impact of a decade of Hamas rule in Gaza, ending with the grim prediction that living conditions in the coastal enclave will worsen significantly over the next three years. The report, “Gaza - 10 Years On”, examines the progressive deterioration of Gaza’s public services and infrastructure in the decade that has elapsed since the civil war of 2007. After months of internecine fighting, Hamas seized absolute power in Gaza in a coup in June of that year, driving out the rival Fatah faction and launching fresh rocket attacks against Israel. Both Israel –which has the longest land border with Gaza - and Egypt imposed a blockade on the territory within months of the coup that remains in place. “Upon seizing control of Gaza, Hamas has increasingly tightened its grip on power, including by executing, maiming and jailing opponents and suppressing dissent,” the report stated. “For years, Hamas was able to sustain its de facto authority and build up its military strength primarily through controlling the movement of goods smuggled through tunnels between Gaza and Egypt and taxing this trade, while the Palestinian Authority paid for essential services to Gaza residents, including some civil service salaries, electricity, water and medical care.” (Algemeiner)
DANON: TIME FOR UN TO DECLARE HAMAS A TERROR ORGANIZATION:
Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said following the release this week of the UNSCO report “Gaza - 10 Years Later”: “This United Nations report proves without a doubt that the rule of Hamas terrorists over the past ten years has not only led to unending attacks on innocent Israelis, but has also brought nothing but pain and destruction to the residents of Gaza. The continued exploitation of humanitarian aid by this terrorist organization harms Palestinian civilians and sabotages the efforts of the international community. It is time for the UN to finally designate Hamas a terrorist organization and to demand that the Palestinian leadership abandon its support of incitement and terror.” (INN)
THREAT OF HEZBOLLAH GROWING WITH IRANIAN AID:
Israel's President Reuven Rivlin said this week at the Memorial Ceremony for the fallen of the Second Lebanon War, marking the 11th anniversary of the war, "We must not be mistaken in seeing this silence as permanent. The threat is still great. Hezbollah is growing stronger with Iranian support and arms aimed at threatening Israeli civilians and carrying out military operations that flagrantly violate UN Resolution 1701," Rivlin said. "Under no circumstances will we allow the establishment of Iranian outposts on our borders. The nations of the world must recognize what is happening and understand the possible consequences. And if a campaign is imposed upon us, we will fight with courage for our lives, our independence, and our citizens," Rivlin added. (Worthy News)
LEADING PRO-HEZBOLLAH NEWSPAPER WARNS ISRAELIS TO EXPECT: ‘RAIN OF ROCKETS’:
A leading article published in a Beirut newspaper known for its close ties to Hezbollah has stated that the Lebanese terrorist organization is now being deployed by its Iranian paymasters across the Middle East, warning that Israel can expect “the rain of rockets that will fall in the midst of summer.” Ibrahim al-Amin, the editor-in-chief of the Hezbollah mouthpiece, Al-Akhbar, wrote, “In Syria, Hezbollah has become the ally of the Syrian army in waging its battles, while in Iraq Hezbollah’s experts are present in the biggest operations rooms.” Al-Amin asked whether “Israel can directly confront Hezbollah in Lebanon while it is fully aware that it doesn’t control what will happen the day after the beginning of hostilities.” He continued: “Israel perfectly knows that all the drills and maneuvers undertaken to protect the domestic front will be of no use in controlling traffic in the central coastal area of Israel hours after the beginning of a total confrontation? Will the leaders of Israel be candid enough to tell their public what will be the fate of the electric grid, transportation networks, airports, sea ports, state headquarters and its infrastructure? Does the enemy really grasp ‘the rain of rockets’ that will fall in the midst of summer?” (Algemeiner) Last week, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said, “Eleven years after the Second Lebanon War, stopping Hezbollah from improving the accuracy of its missiles and rockets is the “top priority” of Israel’s army. Eisenkot said the IDF has used the time since the Second Lebanon War to dramatically improve its abilities, and now has better intelligence and operational capabilities than ever before.
‘SOROS LAW’ TARGETS DONORS TO ANTI-ISRAEL ORGANIZATIONS:
Israel’s MK Mickey Zohar intends to submit a bill seeking to curb the anti-Israel activity of radical leftist Israeli NGOs by placing restrictions on would-be sources of funding. According to the bill, dubbed the “Soros Law” after billionaire George Soros, anyone who contributes to organizations acting against Israel is to be barred from contributing to any Israeli NGO. “The time has come to dry up leftist organizations which work subversively against the government, slander Israel, and try and hurt its right to defend itself,” Zohar said Mon. 10 July 2017. “We must block their sources of funding and thus prevent them from hurting the State.” The prototype of those the bill seeks to target, American currency speculator George Soros, who contributes large sums to political causes around the world through his Open Society Foundations (OSF), including millions of dollars to anti-Israel groups. ISRAEL BACKS HUNGARY, SAYS FINANCIER SOROS IS A THREAT:
Israel's foreign ministry has issued a statement denouncing USA billionaire George Soros, a move that appeared designed to align Israel more closely with Hungary ahead of a visit to Budapest next week by PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Soros, a Hungarian-born Jew who has spent a large part of his fortune manipulating pro-democracy and human rights groups, has repeatedly been targeted by Hungary's right-wing government, in particular over his support for more open immigration. In the latest case, PM Viktor Orban has backed a campaign in which Soros is singled out as an enemy of the state. "Let's not allow Soros to have the last laugh" say billboards next to a picture of the 86-year-old investor. ( Reuters) Virulently anti-Israel and anti-Zionist, George Soros gives billions to left-wing causes. He has manipulated USA presidential election outcomes with his resources, including giving $23.58 million to various 527 groups dedicated to defeating then President George W. Bush in 2004, while financially jump-starting former president Barack Obama’s political career. Soros is also lavish in his financial support for pro-abortion organization, Planned Parenthood. In statements that can only be described as “bizarre,” George Soros has repeatedly said that he sees himself as a “messianic figure.”
TURKISH ENERGY MINISTER ‘TO VISIT ISRAEL FOR PIPELINE DEAL’:
Turkey's Energy Minister Berat Albayrak is set to visit Israel by the end of this year to conclude an agreement for the building of a natural gas pipeline from the Jewish state to Turkey. Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz said on 12 July 2017 that both countries decided to accelerate efforts to conclude an intergovernmental agreement that will enable the construction. "We want to build a pipeline stretching from Israel to Turkey in order to able to export natural gas from Israel to Turkey," Steinitz said, adding that the Israeli gas could be delivered to Europe and to the Balkans through Turkey. EARLIEST MOSAIC OF JONAH AND THE WHALE FOUND IN GALILEE SYNAGOGUE:
Unprecedented depictions of the biblical Jonah and the whale have been found at a fifth-century Roman synagogue in Israel’s lower Galilee. In the recently discovered mosaic, Jonah’s legs are shown dangling from the mouth of a large fish, which is being swallowed by a larger fish, which is being consumed by a third, even larger fish. According to the team of specialists this is the first known depiction of the story of Jonah in an ancient synagogue in Israel. (Times of Israel)
